Kshudiram Datta in pre-monastic life, scion of the well-known Datta clan of Rambagan. Eldest brother a man of high principles and a lifelong celibate, second elder brother a monk of the Ramakrishna Order, Ram Maharaj. The grace and care of Swami Premananda converted him from a dissolute youth into a spiritual aspirant. Having received initiation from Holy Mother left home at the age of 30 and after some travelling around went to Belur Math and took monastic vows from Swami Brahmananda (1919). Travelled to Rangoon (1919) where with relentless efforts he built the Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama Hospital. Compelled to leave Rangoon after the Japanese attack and return to Calcutta, with support from Indian leaders founded the “Burma Evacuees Association” which rendered invaluable service to Indian refugees from Burma. In recognition of this service the British Government conferred on him the title “Kaiser-i-Hind”. Around 1943 he set to compiling the Sri Ramakrishna Panjika. Presided over the foundation of Mahesh Shri Ramakrishna Ashram at Rishra,Hooghly (December 1950). Died on 14.9.1960 at the age of 83.
